WEEKLY ART ROUNDUP #2
been a minute since i did this because i was busy being severely mentally ill and avoidant of all things pertinent to my life (friendships, relationships, posting, literally doing anything besides watching tv and doing drugs) BUT WE ARE SO BACK! here’s my weekly list of things that were good and cool recently!
FRISK
dir. Todd Verow, 1995
terrible adaptation but WONDERFUL PSYCHO film. in anticipation of meeting dennis in person at the room temperature screening, i’ve been binging his work and all related works again. i’ve had this film on dvd for awhile but hadn’t actually watched it out of fear of being disappointed. WOW WAS I WRONG! nothing like an edible and watching frisk will hit the same ever again. so awesome. strand releasing put out some bonkers awesome shit. highly recommend if you’re a totally perverted freakinator (as my roommates would say) who loveeeeeeeees this kind of shit. just watch the trailer and decide if you’d fuck with it.
REREADING YOUR OWN WORK UNTIL IT MAKES YOU SICK
i had to do this because of grad school applications but it gave me some REALLY awesome films to revisit. best of list is:
THE COVENANT 2006, dir. Renny Harlin - lol wtf was this movie. why is it so gay. who was it made for. awesome piece of history that we must constantly revisit.
THE FURY 1978, dir. Brian DePalma - everyone loves DePalma but sleeps on this film which is strange because it’s GOATED. freaky telekinetic twins! mild twincest vibes! go watch if you haven’t!
A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 2: FREDDY’S REVENGE 1985, dir. Jack Sholder - everything to say about this film has already been said but go watch it.
anyways, i really hate rereading my old writing but this was a fun experience. i like remember that i have thoughts and opinions.
URCHIN
dir. Harris Dickinson, 2025
yooooooo i didn’t know harris had that dog in him. incredible debut film and so HONEST in a way that other films of this nature are afraid of being in my opinion. frank dillane gives a world-class performance. didn’t go in expecting much and was knocked off my feet. SO WORTH IT! check it out!
